RCRC’s 2016 Annual Meeting – REGISTER TODAY!!!

RCRC’s 2016 Annual Meeting will be held September 28-30 at the Resort at Squaw Creek in Placer County.  This year’s program will feature experts discussing a wide range of topics of interest to rural counties including:

  • An Insider’s Perspective on the U.S. Supreme Court;
  • Balancing the Benefits and Challenges of Drones;
  • Implementation of a Medical Marijuana Regulatory Scheme in California;
  • Expert Commentary on the Current Political Landscape; and,
  • Navigating the Foster Care System.

San Diego Supervisor Greg Cox Elected Second Vice President of NACo

San Diego County Supervisor Greg Cox was officially elected Second Vice President during the National Association of Counties’ (NACo) Annual Conference in Long Beach, California earlier this week.  Supervisor Cox’s platform and candidate statement can be accessed here.

Legislature Set to Return from Summer Recess

The Legislature will return Monday, August 1, 2016 following their month long summer recess.  The Legislature will return to address hundreds of bills during the final month of the 2015-16 legislative session.  During this time, the respective Senate and Assembly Appropriation Committees will determine the fate of countless bills on the Suspense File, and the floor of each house will also cast votes on a number of bills up until the last minute on August 31, 2016.  

2016 Shaping Up to be Active West Nile Virus Year

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is reporting increased West Nile virus activity across the state, and is investigating numerous suspect cases in humans.  To date in 2016, West Nile virus has been detected in mosquitoes and birds in 32 California counties.  Approximately 600 dead birds and 896 mosquito pools sampled in California this year have been found to harbor the virus.  Additional information on the West Nile Virus in California, as well as an interactive statewide map, can be accessed here.

Comment Deadline Extended Until August 18 on Statewide Dredge or Fill Procedures

The State Water Board will accept both written and oral comments on the proposed California Ocean Plan and Inland Surface Waters, Enclosed Bay, and Estuaries of California Plan amendments.  Written comments must be received by 12:00 Noon on Thursday, August, 18, 2016 at the following address:
