RCRC Presents President's Award to Steve Monaghan,
Nevada County Agency Director/Chief Information Officer

 

SACRAMENTO, CA – September 16, 2022- On September 15, the Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC) announced that Steve Monaghan, Nevada County’s Agency Director/Chief Information Officer, was recognized with the 2022 RCRC President’s Award for his work on behalf of California’s rural counties. Presented during RCRC’s Annual Meeting each September, the RCRC President’s Award celebrates individuals that take the time to go above and beyond their everyday roles to support and strengthen California’s rural counties.

“I am very honored to be receiving this award. As a twenty-plus year public servant, I truly believe it is part of our job and responsibility to assist and contribute to the larger local government community whenever we can,” said Mr. Monaghan. “We all pursue a shared mission to enhance the quality of life for our residents. Every county has areas where they are the statewide or national leader, and we should all benefit from that expertise back in our organizations.”

Mr. Monaghan was selected for his leadership in information technology on behalf of rural California. Mr. Monaghan has provided vital support, serving as the subject matter expert for RCRC staff on broadband advocacy and program development efforts that aided in the formation of RCRC’s affiliate entity dedicated to rural broadband deployment, Golden State Connect Authority. He has also written a series of articles for RCRC’s Barbed Wire newsletter, supplying essential information to local governments on topics of online service provision, cyber-risk reduction, and rural broadband development.

In addition to his role with Nevada County, Mr. Monaghan is a past president and current member of the California County Information Services Directors Association, as well as a member on California State University, Chico’s Cybersecurity Program Advisory Board and RCRC’s Broadband Advisory Committee.

“Steve’s leadership will leave a long-lasting positive imprint in California’s rural communities,” said Patrick Blacklock, RCRC President and CEO. “His knowledge and advocacy have helped set the stage for a major expansion of broadband connectivity in rural counties that will benefit current and future generations.”
